AE
PROFILE: JASON MEULLER
by
The Blonde Myth
Personal
Questions
Board
Name-- Jason Meuller. All
of you are probably aware that’s my pseudonym, and that my real
name is Shawn McClain Gelegan.
I chose to use a pseudonym because Shawn Gelegan also happens
to be the real name of the leprechaun on the Lucky Charms box and I
wanted to avoid any confusion.
Height—
6’1”
Weight
In Season—Who
knows? I’m never “in season”
Weight
Off Season-- Currently 300 lbs (again, hooray!!) and shooting for 320
before dieting for a show at the end of this year.
Marital
Status—
Single, with 2 girlfriends. Good
Carol and Evil Carol.
Goals
in Life-- Man, where do I begin? The
most important thing to me is to have a happy relationship with
Carol, eventually settle down and get married, maybe pop out a
couple of kids. In
business, I’d like AE to be THE most successful bodybuilding
website on the Internet, and THE most successful print bodybuilding
magazine of its kind. That’s
kind of a niche market, it’s not like there’d by 5 or 6 print
publications that were competing with AE.
But I’d like to do what Bill Phillips did with MM2000,
create a print publication that appealed to a broad spectrum of
bodybuilders, while still retaining that hardcore edge.
Of course, that will lead to my eventual sell-out and
retirement at Casa de Gelegan, located next door to the Playboy
Mansion. The difference between Bill and myself is that all
subscribers to the formerly hardcore AE will be invited to a
once-a-year blow out at Casa de Gelegan which will coincidentally
take place the same week Carol takes her yearly trip to visit her
family. NO CAMERAS!
Hobbies
Outside Of The Gym—Is eating a hobby?
Probably reading, I’m a voracious reader.
I particularly like Tom Clancy, W.E.B. Griffin, and John
Grisham. Oh, and sex
when all the begging pays off.
Pet
Peeves—Stupid
people, a category that about 95% of most people would fall
into.

Bodybuilding
Questions
Years
Bodybuilding-
13
Reason
For Getting Into Bodybuilding—After years of long-distance
running, I was abnormally skinny. I had a large father and my brother was 230 without ever
really lifting weights seriously, so I knew I had the genetics to be
big. I was tired of
getting shit for being so thin and it was the typical story out of
the back of the comic books, you know, the whole Charles Atlas
thing.
Goal(s)
In Bodybuilding—Well,
I’m turning 30 this year, and I figure the next 5 years will be my
best years in the sport. I’m
competing at the end of this year in a national qualifier (The NPC
Sacramento for those of you who care), and will be competing in a
national show in 2002. I’d
like to turn pro by age 32-33.
I don’t have aspirations of winning the Olympia, I don’t
have the genetics to beat a Coleman. However, turning pro would
accomplish several goals for me.
I’ve dreamed of competing as a professional bodybuilder
since I first started bodybuilding, and the credibility it would
give me as a bodybuilding writer/publisher would be substantial.
Role
Model When Growing Up—
My brother, Mark. I’ve
never seen anyone pursue their dreams with such tenacity, my brother
dreamed of being a fighter pilot from the time he was old enough to
consider such things, and eventually flew F-18’s for the Marines.
He was killed in 1990 in a training accident, and I miss him
horribly. He was my
best friend.
Whose
Physique(s) You Admire—
Only the big boys need apply. I
think the most amazing physique photos I’ve ever seen were the
black and white pictures of Dorian Yates that were taken a few
months out from the Olympia. The
man’s size and brutal mass were simply amazing.
Have
You Ever Competed in Powerlifting/Bodybuilding? Results?—Only
as a teenager. 1st
in one show, 3rd in my very first.
If
You Could Change One Thing In Your Past, What Would It be?-
Ah, I know many might
think I’m going to say my arrest in ’96 for sale of steroids,
but they’d be wrong! Manufacturing RemForce, a GBL product similar
to Renewtrient. That little venture cost me untold amounts of money (well
over $100,000) and almost a year of my life bringing the project
from conception to fruition. Obviously
I’m a huge fan of the FDA.
.
Training
Questions
Personal
Bests—Here
we go. Squats: 765 lbs Bench:
450 lbs Bent-over
Rows: 495 lbs Curls:
225 lbs BTW, I currently could only hope to match those feats of
strength in bench and bent-over rows.
I train differently than I once did, and don’t focus solely
on strength anymore.
Who
Influenced Your Way Of Training—Two
people, both of whom also happen to be my co-defendants in my
steroid case back in ’96. One
was Jason Brush, who is without a doubt, the training partner who
pushed me the most over the years.
The guy is insane in the gym, and the wars in the gym between
he and I were responsible for all of the above lifts.
The other was Dante from Hardcore Muscle, who is also a
madman in the gym. It was Dante who introduced me to rest-pause and a whole new
level of pain.
Where
Do You Train—World
Gym, Citrus Heights, CA
Funniest
Things You've Seen Training—Probably
the shit Jason and I used to pull in the gym, like eating Del Taco
quesadillas while training, or interrupting our training sessions to
help him get ready for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Seeing two guys our size suddenly start grappling by the
squat racks tended to unnerve some of the other members.
What
Do You Think About When you Train? If Anything at all—I’m
not going to lie, I think about getting the fuck out of the gym.
I’m enjoying training right now because I’m seeing such
great results, but I’m glad when it’s over.

Nutrition
Questions
Favorite
Food
In-season-
Chicken and steak
Off-Season-
Chicken and steak. Hey,
I get cravings for shit food just like everyone else, but for the
most part I crave chicken and steak.
Probably because I eat so much damn food, I don’t really
crave things that provide “empty” calories.
Favorite Supplements—Lipokinetix.
If you’re dieting and not using this supplement, you’re
an idiot. Plain and
simple.
Sample
Day Eating Right Now--
Let’s not even get
into this. Suffice to
say, it’s a shitload of food.
.
AE/Anabolic
Questions
Why
Did You Create Anabolic Extreme—Originally
I created AE to help sales at my Internet nutrition store, Advanced
Athletic Nutrition. I
was selling products by Twinlab, Prolab, Met-RX, etc cheaper than
anyone on the ‘net and needed some eyeballs coming to the website. AE almost immediately became more popular than I had ever
imagined possible and took on a life of its own. Eventually I dumped AAN and focused entirely on AE, which led
us to where we are today.
Years
AE has been up—Almost
2 now. I guess 2-year
mark will be in July of this year.
AS
Experience(years)—About
7
How
many cycles a year do you do—1,
it just lasts 12 months.
What
was you last cycle and what did you use ......no vol needed--
Test,
deca, oxymetholone, T3
What’s
been your most favorite topic on AE—Probably
the articles and discussions that were centered around the use of
site enhancement products. It
really is a controversial topic and created some great threads.
Questions
you hate—Those
from young kids who write to me asking advice on how to cycle. I’m a sucker for kids, and feel a strange duty to set them
straight when I see them making a mistake.
For example, if some 25 year-old writes me and wants advice
on how to use gear when he clearly has no business doing so, I’ll
ignore him. However, if
some 16 year-old writes me the same letter, you can bet that I’m
going to write him a long personal response as to why he should
wait, how steroids would be the wrong decision at this point in his
life. I hate these
questions because I can’t ignore them, I take a tremendous amount
of time responding so I don’t sound like a puritanical stick in
the mud, and I know the kid is probably going to say, “Fuck
Meuller” and use them anyway. So if you’re under the age of 20 and considering using
steroids, save me a headache and don’t write me for advice. Ignorance is bliss in my book.
Being
the owner, what do you want to accomplish in the coming year?
My biggest goal right now is to
produce a printed version of AE and distribute it at this years
Olympia.
Being
the owner, what do you want to accomplish 5 years down the
road? Have
a nationally distributed bodybuilding publication that is owned by a
professional bodybuilder.
How
did you feel when Brock Strosser decided to use your real name and
try to out you last year?—
Well, on one hand, I felt I had accomplished something since the
boys at T-Mag obviously saw someone with the potential to
actually become everything they had claimed to be and were
threatened by it. Quite
frankly, they were stupid to even mention me at all, since they were
ultimately recognizing AE as a legitimate player in their market.
Had they done it a few months earlier, I would have shit my
pants, as I was fighting possession charges in two different
counties, one for the possession itself, the other for the violation
of probation. Orange
County was seeking 16 months for my violation of probation, for one
fucking vial of T-200!! Needless
to say, the last thing in the world I wanted revealed was that I was
producing a website that dealt primarily with the use of anabolic
steroids when I’m in court fighting possession charges for
anabolic steroids. However,
by the time T-Mag made good on their threat, I’d already beaten
the case in both courts, and couldn’t really care less that they
were revealing my real name. I
actually revealed my true identity on the AE board about 10 days
before T-Mag did so on their site, simply to show that I no longer
cared.
FINAL
QUESTION:
What's
one piece of advice you would give to a newbie on training,
nutrition, or gear?-
Well, I guess the best advice I could give a newbie is to
read AE. Yes, I know that sounds pompous and arrogant, but basically
the best way to progress in bodybuilding is by educating yourself as
much as possible. AE is
the best place to do this.
