AE
PROFILE: GRENDEL
by The Blonde Myth
[Editors Note: Many of you are familiar with the names of the moderators on the AE
discussion boards, The Extreme Forum and TNT Forum. The moderators spend their time keeping the boards running
smoothly, interjecting thoughts and ideas, and most of all, helping
the other board members with any question or concern they might
have. Since our
moderators have done such a great job, I thought it was time to give
them a moment in the spotlight, so to speak, and perhaps give you a
better idea of how they became so damn smart and knowledgeable.
This week’s profile is of our resident bodybuilding guru
and head of our buggery department (who even knew we had such a
thing?), Grendel.]

Bodybuilding
Questions
Years
Bodybuilding--I
am coming up on 5 years of solid training
Reason
For Getting Into Bodybuilding--I
was a fat kid although I was always strong. I think I was 200lbs as
a freshman and I wrestled throughout high school (only lost one
match). Then, as happens to so many of us, my heart was broken by a
16 year-old girl and I started lifting. I think I have to credit my
good friend Adam B for getting me into it. He taught me right from
the start; pre-exhaustion, compound sets, and failure training from
the beginning. He also started me on the Anabolic Diet (Mario
DiPasquali) which really helped me. That guy will always be the
"reason" for me.
Goal
(s) In Bodybuilding--I
might like to do some local competitions, but I have no plans to
make it as a professional bodybuilder.
Role
Model When Growing Up--Arnold!
I saw Conan when I was 5 and went as Conan for Halloween in
kindergarten. He will always be the vision of bodybuilding.
Whose
Physique (s) You Admire--I
like Levrone and Ray a lot, I think they should be applauded for
keeping themselves from getting just plain bloated and still having
a very tight abdomen. I think Marcus Ruhl is extremely freaky and
that he is the current champion of that look. I think Coleman is
going to have a long run at the Mr. Olympia title but I think the
next Mr. Olympia is going to be Jay Cutler; it seems Weider is
grooming him for the post.
Have
You Ever Competed in Power lifting/Bodybuilding? Results?--Yes,
when I was 19 (220lbs) I did a power lifting competition and got
300lbs on the bench and 200lbs behind the neck shoulder press. I
came in dead last, in fact, my best weight was the warm-up weight
for the guys around me, who were all much older and much heavier. It
was pretty sad, but that was the first time I ever put up 300lbs on
the bench. I think one rep maxes are best performed in front of a
crowd, you definitely get a lot of adrenaline.
If
You Could Change One Thing In Your Past, What Would It be?--
I would take better advantage of having lived in Cairo for some many
years. I would have been training my calves harder from day one and
I would have never bought any supplement other than protein powders,
amino acids, and vitamins.

Training
Questions
Personal
Bests--I
must preface this by saying that I am not big on one-rep maximums
and that whole school of claiming certain max lifts. Most of the
time people are full of shit. I bench about 365 and I have squatted
505 for reps (free weight squats down to 90 degrees). These are at
the high end of the weight I work out with, like I might do 3 reps
at 345 on the bench as part of my workout. Let me say why I don’t
give a damn about my maximum lifts; I use pre-exhaustion training.
When you get to the point where you are squatting 500 plus pounds
you run a serious risk of hurting yourself and damaging knees, etc.
So, I use leg extensions to pre-exhaust then I can workout with
300lbs and not have to worry as much about structural damage. The
results are the same in terms of muscular hypertrophy, but I think
it’s a safer way to train.
Who
Influenced Your Way Of Training--Again,
I would have to say my friend Adam B.
Where
Do You Train?--
I used to train at Gold's Gym but I hated it there. There were 2
cool trainers there who used to compete and know their shit about
drugs and training. But most of the people there were idiots bopping
their heads to Mariah Carey and NSYNC or dancing around with
glowsticks (not really but it wasn’t far from the truth). Now I
train at a small college gym.
Funniest
Things You've Seen Training--I
think the frat boys who always seem to be training arms and chest
are amusing. I also like the fat old guys who "used to lift 900
pounds and was king of the world but then hurt their right testicle
and now can only bench 100 pounds " but who love to tell you
how to train. I like the personal trainers who are only big for
about 2 months out of the year and have heinous acne and "bad
tempers". I like strippers training around their implants...uhmm..strippers.
What
Do You Think About When you Train? If Anything at all--I
mostly think of the most painful and hurtful moments in my life and
funnel that anger into my workout.
.
Nutrition
Questions
Favorite
Food--In-season-Islamic
Smashed Chicken, but that’s only in Cairo, Egypt. I guess I like
grilled chicken and steak. This is a stupid question really, in
season what can you eat that is a favorite...anything that has
taste, how about that.
Off-Season-Pizza
and poptarts baby, pizza and poptarts.
Favorite
Supplements--Insulin
and Growth Hormone...oh, shit...no I mean, whey protein and a
multi-vitamin. I also like LipoKinetix..
Sample
Day Eating Right Now--
Breakfast:
1 whey shake (50 grams protein) with water
.
Lunch:
2 hamburger patties with cheese.
Post-Workout:
1 whey shake.
Dinner:
Grilled chicken breasts and some spinach.
Before
Bed: 1
whey shake and maybe some salad.

AE/Anabolic
Questions
How
Did You Find Anabolic Extreme--It
was about 2 years ago I saw a link to it on a listserver and I
checked it out. I thought Jason had a good style and I kept
coming back; this was when an issue took 3.48 months to get up or
never came out at all. Then Grendel came and things started to
change....
Years
On AE--1
year
AS
Experience (years)--
Prefer not to answer this
one on the grounds that it may incriminate me.
How
many cycles a year do you do--
prefer not to answer on the grounds that is may incriminate me; I
might imagine doing about 4 good cycles per year.
What
was you last cycle and what did you use ......no volume needed--
My imaginary last cycle would have been
-700mg testosterone per week
-75 mg trenbolone every other day
-cytomel, clenbuterol, lipokinetix
What’s
been your most favorite topic on AE--
I can’t really say.
Questions
you hate--
"How
do I get bigger...."
"How much do you eat..."
"Do you want to get bigger? Why?"
"Do you have the money now honey..." oh shit, wait, no, no
I didn’t mean that, I didn’t mean that...please oh god I am
ruined...
I hate any question I have already answered in an article....like
"how do I use clomid"....FUCK YOU!! I have written how to
do that so many times...once more, 50mg everyday now stop asking me.
Pet
Peeves--Puppies,
baby cats. Ignorance, stupidity, lack of wit. Being bigger then me.
Relationship
to the owner Jay Mueller--Love
slave...not! Good friends by now.
.
FINAL
QUESTION:
Whats
one piece of advice you would give to a newbie on training,
nutrition, or gear?
Train
hard and consistently, this sport is about putting in the time and
in this case I mean years. It will take you, even with drugs,
about 7 years before you are really thick. Don’t rush it, take
your time and make sure you lay down a strong basis on which to
build. There are no magic drugs; there is no holy anabolic grail.
Just remember, it takes time and dedication, even with drugs.
